Ghost Recon Wildlands was released on 7 March 2017, and I remember the date because after being sent an invitation email to the closed beta by Ubisoft, I watched this live action teaser trailer:

This piqued my curiosity enough to try out the closed beta (seeing as it was free and all). Although limited to just playing through the story missions in Itacua province, I experienced enough awesome sneaky, open-world, free-roaming, present-day detail, and graphical delights to immediately pre-order the Gold Edition of Wildlands right then!

I was busting a gut in anticipation of the open beta to play more of the game in Montuyoc province, and couldn’t wait for the launch of the game, which is why I remember the date so vividly without needing to resort to Wikipedia for reference.

That was a year ago now, and a lot has happened in the past 12 months. I could reel off a load of stats for you myself, but Ubisoft have done the job for us with this entertaining and engaging infographic. I will just say I’ve been largely impressed with the frequent release of patches from the devs, and I’ve enjoyed the challenges which have kept some interest in the game, especially ending 2017 with the incredibly visceral Predator mission.

If you haven’t picked up the game yet yourself, it’s often available for a great price on all platforms and Ubisoft seem to frequently run free weekends where you can play the story mode and Ghost War PvP online multiplayer for nothing. If you’ve got the game and participated in its success to date, then take in the delights of the first year of Wildlands… it’s been awesome, and here’s to year two 🍺
